New County Commissioners approve theatre plans
One of the first things the newly appointed county commissioners did was review the plans for a 14-screen movie theatre on Carolina Beach Road just north of St. Andrew’s Drive. They voted unanimously to allow the project to proceed.

Owner and developer, Matt DiGioia was thrilled that the approval was granted  and said, “I couldn’t be more relieved or more excited about the decision.”

There was still a core of neighborhood objectors that attended the meeting which led to a number of conditions attached to the approval to address some of the concerns including some improvements to roundabouts and bike lanes and installation of a 3-way stop sign at Split Rail Drive.

DiGioia said that it will be at least another year before ground breaking because of the current economic instability, but at least the majority of the infrastructure is in. Construction will begin once the economy starts to turn around - whenever that may be.

Introducing PleasureIslandVacationGuide.com
We had such a positive response to our Vacation Guide insert in SCM during the summer months that we decided to turn it into a website. Since just about every business is on the Snow's Cut team in some fashion, we're able to put together a seriously comprehensive website.

I'm asking you, our loyal readers, to be our first focus group. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Keep in mind that it's still in development, but you'll get the general concept. I'd like to know what you think we're missing, what's confusing, what's helpful...etc.

The first 10 people to respond get a dozen free Krispy Kreme donuts.

No Tour of Homes this year
Unfortunately the Island of Lights Tour of Homes had to be cancelled this year. It seems that there just weren't enough people willing to display their homes this year.

I would have done it, but a tour of my van down by the river wouldn't be very exciting. The volunteers at Island of Lights promise to bring us the tour next year.

Green wrapping paper - and I don't mean the color
A local mom I know wondered why we have to sacrifice so many trees to wrap our gifts. Instead of doing nothing about it, she went and started a business - Fabric Wrapper.

She designed re-usable fabric wrapping paper, so that we don't have to keep wasting paper - and it looks great. Nice idea Steph Lancaster.

This Christmas on the Cape Fear Peninsula
Check out the SCM Pleasure Island Event Calendar we've recently re-vamped it to be a great source of information. And remember to check out our entertainment calendar in the magazine (page 43 this month). We even list the drink and menu specials at your favorite places. You'll always know where to go.

Tonight - Friday, Dec 5 - Divine Wines' weekly free wine tasting will focus on Chilean wines. You can call Ernie anytime at 791-1251 for a little advice.

They're also putting many wines and specialty foods on special for the rest of the year. All day long on Saturday you can stop in and sample selected wines.

The Island of Lights parade starts at 7:30pm. If you've never come out for this you're missing out - it's fun.

The Last Resort may be the best place to take in the parade. New owners Kim and Bob Lewis will rope off their entire parking lot and serve hot chocolate, coffee and chili (it will be cold tonight). Immediately after the parade Cary B. will play live.

The Black Horn - Tom Rhodes plays from 10pm-close

**The Black Horn has changed their entertainment schedule for the winter. Every Friday night they'll have acoustic happy hours from 7-11pm. On Saturdays they'll still have live bands from 10pm-close.

Saturday, Dec 6 –

The Island of Lights Christmas Flotilla starts at 6pm. This year a grand tradition has been revived. The Harbor Masters Restaurant will have a bash (what a spot to watch the flotilla!) and even be the home-base for the judges.

The Last Resort will have a flotilla party - it turns out that you can see the flotilla from there, I didn't know that. They'll have hot chocolate, coffee, chili, and, oh boy, the Deadnotes playing hillbilly rock with Russell Haywood on drums.

The Ocean Grill - The "OG" has $4.99 appetizers all day, plus drink specials
The Black Horn - 458 plays from 10-close. This is Jeremy Robinson's new band, so check them out.

Sunday, Dec 7 –
Like football? These places all have the NFL package so you can watch whatever game you like. They all have drink and menu specials as well. Check out page 43 in this month's SCM for more information.

The Shuckin' Shack - your Cincinnati Bengals headquarters (get a life and root for the Ravens Matt)
Michael's Seafood
The Black Horn - Did you know that the Black Horn has new winter hours? They're closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays this winter. They are happy to host your private party on these nights. Give them a call for rates.

The Shuckin' Shack turns One!

...and they're having a party

The Shuckin' Shack has made a name for themselves as a fun, casual, friendly place to have a beer and some seafood.

Owner Matt Piccinnin, who is like a cuddly teddy-bear that all the girls want to smooch, invites you all out on Saturday to celebrate their birthday.

All day long they'll have drink specials, food specials and giveaways.

The dude on their logo may look pretty aggro, but not the people who go to the Shack.
